SambaSafety Transforms Driver Risk Management with Acquisition of Instructional Technologies Inc.

DENVER, MARCH 18, 2021 – SambaSafety, the market leader in driver risk management technology, has acquired Instructional Technologies Inc. (ITI), provider of best-in-class online driver training and technology since 1995. The merger facilitates the ground-breaking addition of online training to the company’s continuous driver monitoring solution, Qorta™, closing the safety loop for employers across industry.

ITI provides proven online driver training and learning management system (LMS) software to many of the world’s best-known fleets. ITI’s comprehensive training offerings help companies to reduce crashes, develop and retain great drivers and reduce liability related to employees and contractors behind the wheel. Products include PRO-TREAD®, a collection of over 140 courses for commercial drivers and warehouse employees; ClearDrive™ online training for delivery drivers and commercial fleets; PRO-DEFENSE™, a modern approach to defensive driving for sedan and light duty vehicle drivers; and Sentix® LMS, a powerful platform for delivering training to drivers online and via mobile devices.

Qorta helps more than 5,000 employers across industry continuously monitor the state and federal driving records of millions of their drivers. With the integration of ITI training content and its patented LMS assignment technology, Qorta will provide even more comprehensive tools for companies to enforce policy compliance and promote safety with an engaging online training curriculum. This combination will streamline administration and intelligently assign courses based on behavior for all drivers from a single risk and compliance platform.

“Since our launch of the first license monitoring solution for employers, SambaSafety has revolutionized how companies manage driver risk,” said Allison Guidette, CEO, SambaSafety. “Today’s exciting announcement positions SambaSafety to again raise the bar and provide the industry’s only comprehensive platform to identify and efficiently act on driver risk with world-class online training.”

“SambaSafety shares our commitment to reducing traffic crashes and workplace injuries," said Nathan Stahlman, President and CEO, ITI. "Our clients will benefit as we bring our products and teams together in dynamic new ways, and communities will benefit as we introduce online learning to new audiences facilitated by the SambaSafety team."

FAQs

Will My Product Work the Same?

Yes. Logins and features will remain the same as the companies integrate systems. Over time, you can expect to see more advances and product options.

As we make changes to features or products, you’ll see announcements in the LMS, and you’ll receive emails and calls. We will continue to provide the same excellent level of customer service.

How Will This Benefit Us?

Our companies are working to make it easier to target training to individuals and groups. SambaSafety provides real-time monitoring of motor vehicle records (MVRs) and other types of fleet data. The goal is to automate training assignments based on violations of the safety policies. It’s a big promise that will improve safety and reduce liability, and we’re looking forward to fulfilling it.

Who Will Be My Contact?

Same ITI team, same ITI number. The Vancouver offices will remain open. You can reach the same can-do Client Services team via help@instructiontech.net or (360) 576-5976, Ext. 4.

Will ITI Add New Products and Services?

Yes, absolutely. In addition to strides in LMS improvements and training automation with SambaSafety data and other types of fleet data, you can expect more services and content to roll out at a faster rate.

What Does the Future Hold for ITI?

In the big picture, ITI has been a reasonably small company. That had a lot of benefits for you — we were focused on you, we offered you flexible solutions, we took a can-do attitude. A frequent mantra at ITI is, “It’s not the big who eat the small, it’s the fast who eat the slow.” We move fast at ITI!

In SambaSafety, we chose a partner who embraces the same entrepreneurial spirit. Though about 10x our size, they move fast too! They focus on customers, and they build great products.

We chose this path, it didn’t choose us. We picked SambaSafety because it will be good for our customers and the safety of our roads. If you like us, then you’ll love what is coming as we grow with SambaSafety.

What Does SambaSafety Do?

You can learn more about them at SambaSafety.com. The short version is that they provide real-time continuing license monitoring — checking motor vehicle records (MVRs) for your drivers. Fleets of all shapes and sizes use their products to pre-screen new hires, as well as monitor their records once employed. Insurers work with SambaSafety to help simplify and make more accurate underwriting decisions.

Why Did ITI Sell to SambaSafety?

There’s an old saying: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

ITI began exploring options to grow the business while allowing our founder, Dr. Jim Voorhees, to step back and focus on other projects. ITI added more than 115 new clients over the past year — the business is healthy. But safety and training are more interconnected to fleet businesses than ever before. To meet that challenge and go further, we wanted to find the right partner: SambaSafety.
